The Zero Hour Manifesto

For too long, humanity has tolerated a tyrant hiding in plain sight: the number 12, masquerading as zero at the two moments a day when it matters most.

Midnight is not “12:00 AM.” Midnight is 0:00. It is the beginning. Nothing has happened yet. You cannot start counting a day at its highest number.

Noon is not “12:00 PM.” Noon is 0:00 PM — the zero point of the afternoon, the moment the second half of the day resets and starts climbing again toward 11:59 PM.

The fix

It had a good run. It confused schoolchildren, air traffic controllers, and every hospital shift log for centuries. Time to go.

Why this holds up

The whole reason this is confusing is that AM/PM flips at the same instant the hour resets to its maximum value instead of to zero. Every other hour transition in the 12-hour system counts up. Only this one counts down, then flips. Base-0 fixes it with one rule change and zero new symbols.

Objections, pre-crushed

But 12 has always been noon and midnight 12 has always been wrong. It is just old.
This will confuse people Less than the current system confuses people, which is the entire premise of this movement.
Just use 24-hour time Correct, and unavailable. No civilian clock in this country ships that way, and the one on your wall still says 12.
